PROGRAM DESCRIPTION OVERVIEW The Women Infant’s and Children’s Program is a federal funded grant which provides qualifying women and children with supplemental food, education on nutrition topics, and referral to community programs. Those eligible include pregnant women, new mothers, infants, and children through age 5. POSITION DESCRIPTION OVERVIEW Supervise WIC Educators, Program Assistants and a clinic site. Ensures clinic operates efficiently when short staffed. Fill-in for absent educator performing certification, recertification and follow-up appointments. Coordinate and perform nutrition care for at-risk clientele per agency standard follow-up timeframes. Implement program Quality Assurance activities such as educator caseload management, chart audits and observations. Coordinate new employee training in collaboration with WIC Coordinator. Provide ongoing training of new and seasoned staff. Assist in the development of clinic site and program protocols and procedures. Coordinate with clinic site staff to identify service gaps within WIC for nutrition services. Enhance training, development of pamphlets and events. Provide recommendations on budget, equipment and educational purchases, and rental agreements. Participate on various state, local and community committees. Teach classes and market the WIC program to improve the nutrition status of the community. Monitor use of clinic expenses, office supplies and monthly ordering. Participate in departmental emergency planning and response activities. Promote public health within the community. Perform other duties as required. Take personal responsibility to provide exceptional customer service in order to promote and maintain a positive Department of Health image, constructive working environment, and foster pride and professionalism in the workplace and community. OVERVIEW OF BASIC REQUIREMENTS KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES Knowledge of prenatal, breastfeeding, infant and childhood nutrition and development. Ability to use computer and scientific and measurement devices: Hemocue, infant and adult scales, stadiometer and length board. Ability to communicate, motivate, and organize projects among a broad spectrum of personnel, frequently under deadline pressure. Skill in demonstrating a cooperative, professional attitude to cultivate relationships both within and outside the organization. Skill in prioritizing and organizing multiple tasks and the ability to complete projects in a timely manner. Ability to respond in a flexible manner and reprioritize work as situations change. Ability to demonstrate sound judgment by taking appropriate actions regarding questionable findings or concerns. Ability to identify problems and work creativity to resolve them, considering the impact of actions on the department. Knowledge and understanding of company policies and procedures. Ability to write and maintain accurate records and reports to meet management objectives. Ability to maintain confidentiality. Ability to work independently and in a team environment. Skilled in training and presentation. Ability to perform under stress and when confronted with persons acting under stress. Ability to travel, work in stressful situations. Ability to lift up to 30 pounds. Ability to work in a noisy environment with potential exposure to infections, blood, and contagious diseases.
